Programs and Services

Cherry Street Mission Ministries’ vision is to transform lives by empowering people to advance from dependency to self-sufficiency through abundant life in Christ Jesus. We reach out to low-income and homeless men, women, and children in the community through our various programs.

Men’s Ministry
The Men’s Division is able to serve 150 men each night, providing them with food, clothing, shelter, daily chapel services, and weekly medical attention, as well as information and referrals to agencies that provide a wide range of services. Shelter guests are given the opportunity to enroll in the Ready for Life Program (RFL), a rehabilitation program to help men overcome drug and alcohol addictions and other debilitating issues.

Women’s Ministry
The Sparrow’s Nest is Cherry Street Mission’s Women’s Division, which provides safe emergency shelter for single women. The Sparrow’s Nest reopened in January 2005, with expanded sleeping and dining areas for 51 women per night. The new women’s program  includes emergency shelter with 24 hour operation, as well as case management, education, and extended lengths of stay.

After Care
The Aftercare program started in January 2007 and is available to all men and women who leave the shelter and find appropriate housing. Aftercare is an individualized approach designed to ease the transition from shelter life to independent living. This is accomplished through frequent contact with the former guests and includes home visits, continued linkage to community resources, and encouragement in their walk with God. They receive donated items needed for their apartments, for themselves, and for the children they reunite with. Aftercare guests are also encouraged to keep attending classes and Bible studies that are offered through The Sparrow's Nest, Men's Ministry, and the Education Center. Many guests come back to volunteer for us. They are also invited to- and involved in- special events, such as the annual banquet.

Food Services
Cherry Street serves men and women every day to help meet their most basic need of eating a balanced meal. Cherry Street serves nearly 700 meals each day to men, women, and children and provides food baskets upon requests. These services are available to anyone who is in need.

Community Services
We gratefully accept gift-in-kind donations (anything donated that is not cash) such as food, clothing and household items, and redistribute these items to those in need. We coordinate the Community Services Network, where churches, agencies, individuals, and corporations can partner together to help meet the needs of this community. Community Services also provides a safe environment for individuals or groups interested in volunteering their time and energies to a worthwhile cause.

Education and Career Development
The Education and Career Center at Cherry Street Mission Ministries is a contemporary program that provides comprehensive courses in Job Readiness and Computer Literacy, as well as testing for individuals needing an official GED fee waiver. This is our newest facility, equipped with state of the art computers and software-serving both our clients and clients from other social service agencies in Lucas County.
