April's Story

The month April marks our calendars each year as a sign of spring: a time of renewal, a fresh start from the cold, dark days of winter. For a young grandmother named April, a time of renewal and fresh start is exactly what she needed, after decades of struggling with addiction.

I had been battling since 1986 the addiction of crack cocaine. I had done prostitution. I had done so many things to disrespect myself. I had lost my children. I just wanted to die. I had finally just totally given up. I was so tired, I just wanted to take my life.
